HOW TO LOCATE & GET DIRECTIONS TO PLACES LISTED IN THIS GUIDE

1. When this website was first created, we aimed where possible to provide locations using Google maps. However, Google maps’ detail, accuracy and updates are still poorer here than you would find in most countries. Since our website was first published, Maps.me, NAVER and KakaoMap apps have become available in English (see below). They are far superior to Google in detail, accuracy and updates. Search option using business phone number (landline only) is possible with NAVER and KakaoMap.

2. For drivers, you can use your GPS to locate and get directions. The simplest search method is to do so using the PHONE NUMBER for the business. This only works with landline numbers (for Geoje, these start with 055). It does not work with hand phone (010) numbers.

3. Maps.me is a maps and navigation app which provides directions in English and requires no knowledge of Korean. It gives information for driving, cycling, travelling by bus or walking to your destination. It is also a useful tool for searching for various services, including buses, supermarkets, hospitals, petrol stations, cafes, parking etc. If you have a smartphone with a contract giving internet access, you can download and use this app. You can also download maps for offline use. Many shops, restaurants and other places in Geoje are shown on the maps. 

4. Naver Maps ​is probably the best maps and navigation app for Expat use in Korea. It provides directions in English and requires no knowledge of Korean. It also gives information for driving, cycling, travelling by public transport or walking to your destination, as well as taxi cost. Hiking trails are also shown. Like KakaoMap and Maps.me, it is a useful tool for searching for various services, including buses, supermarkets, hospitals, petrol stations, cafes, parking etc. Naver Maps also includes the facility to search by phone number. If you have a smartphone with a contract giving internet access, you can download and use this app. Many shops, restaurants and other places in Geoje are shown on maps and unlike Google, changes are regularly updated.

5. KakaoMap app is, like NAVER, available in English language. It is another Expat user-friendly maps and navigation tool. Its features are similar to those provided on NAVER. It also gives quick short-cuts to Kakao Taxi.
