Banking

To open a bank account, you need to visit the bank in person and present your passport and Alien Registration Card. Korea’s banking hours on weekdays are 09:00-16:00. You can also use ATMs or online banking through mobile phones or the internet. Almost all of the banks run English websites for foreigners’ online banking. You can find ATM’s in most convenience stores and supermarkets.

Currency

The currency of South Korea is the Korean won, KRW. A single won is divided into 100 jeon, the monetary subunit. The jeon is no longer used for everyday transactions, and appears only in foreign exchange rates. Notes are available in denominations of KRW1000, KRW5000, KRW10000 and KRW50000. Coins are available in KRW10, KRW50, KRW100 and KRW500.
